The PPTFH Volunteer Response Team Needs You
BYLINE: Sharon Kilbride, Volunteer Response Team
As we restructure our current model, we’ll need more volunteers on our Volunteer Response Team to succeed.
It takes the entire community to achieve our mission of helping those who are experiencing homelessness, keeping our town safe, and informing the community on issues of homelessness. If you care about our mission, have time to help, and would like to join this exciting community work, please consider volunteering with us!
The Volunteer Response Teams data from 2022 is as follows:
617 individuals were engaged in all areas of the Palisades.
370 new abandoned camps were cleaned up.
106 vehicle dwellers were located.
65 areas with evidence of illegal fire materials were found and cleaned up.
9 Individuals were found unresponsive on the streets and were hospitalized.
We are looking for working professionals, active retirees, and students over the age of 18 to join our PPTFH Volunteer Response Team.
Training is available, schedules are flexible, and the tasks are rewarding.
A volunteer’s duties:
The Palisades is separated into five areas which require outreach volunteers. We will make sure that you volunteer in the area where you live and are familiar with.
You will need to engage new unhoused individuals in your area and evaluate their needs. You will provide interested individuals with informational cards that direct them to our weekly meet-up with our expert caseworkers from The People Concern.
Volunteers are also responsible for cleaning up any abandoned encampments found in your area. Volunteers work closely with the team chair, outreach workers from The People Concern, LAPD Beach Detail, Beaches and Harbors, LAFD, and Lifeguards.
If you can spare a day or more each week walking, hiking, or bicycling in your neighborhood compassionately engaging homeless individuals and looking for encampments we would love to have you on our team!
It takes a village and PPTFH needs you now more than ever to continue our rewarding work in Pacific Palisades and Santa Monica Canyon. Please email us at info@pptfh.org to volunteer and be sure to include your phone number so we may contact you. Please check out our website at pptfh.org
